Live One Day At A Time

“The load of tomorrow, added to that of yesterday, carried today, makes the strongest falter.” – Dr. William Oster

Enemies in war always DIVIDE AND CONQUER!

If a people, or alliance can be divided , they lose the will to win, and in the confusion and arguing they LOSE the ability to survive.

There is no question about the effectiveness of “Divide and Conquer”.

Lets apply it to your life, specifically the two most important aspects of your life:

1) Your Personal HEALTH:

(Physical, mental and emotional)

Read the quote at the start of the article again.

Overburdening, by trying to carry too many loads will wreck you emotionally, destroy you mentally and crush you physically.

But most people carry the “burden of tomorrow” in their imaginations.

What will I do about that?”

What if this happens?”

“When will I find the time to do everything on my plate?”

“What if they say no?”

They live out in their imaginations all the work and problems of tomorrow.

Thus they add the burden of tomorrow’s problems and challenges on to TODAY’s work-load.

They re-live and re-do all of the problems and work of yesterday – and ad this burden to the imagined burden of tomorrow’s work.

Not just yesterday – but MANY yesterdays.

But they then must do todays work – when they are already occupied by re-doing the mental work of numerous yesterdays and the work and danger of countless tomorrows.

No wonder so many people suffer from burnout – and break under the strain.

The cure? Simple:

“Live only one day at a time… live today!

Divide your life into one-day compartments.

Shut out all YESTERDAYS.

Shut out all TOMORROWS.

Divide – and CONQUER.

Live only this one day – TODAY!

Then you’ve just got one day’s problems to conquer.

Anybody can conquer just one day’s problems.

Alcoholics Anonymous teaches people not to STOP DRINKING FOREVER.

Instead – just decide you will not drink today.

Not forever.

“Anyone can carry his burden, however hard, until nightfall. Anyone can do his work, however hard for one day. Anyone can live sweetly, patiently, lovingly, purely, for twenty four hours. – Robert Louis Stevenson.

Then begin to divide even more – so that you can conquer more!

Divide each day into individual tasks to be done.

Then – Concentrate ONLY on the task you are doing – Just that one task.

Just the one task you are doing right now. Just that one object on your plate.

Nothing else.

When your decision is made and put into action – dismiss absolutely all care or responsibility about the outcome.” – William James

Don’t THINK about the tasks you have yet to do.

Let each task come each in its time.

Multitasking is a myth!

All greatness from human beings has been created by one method alone.

SUSTAINED, SINGLE-MINDED FOCUS only on the TASK AT HAND.

2) Your SUCCESS in Life:

By dividing your tasks into separate chunks and focusing on one at a time, you achieve a calm, steady pace – which leads to INEVITABLE SUCCESS.

Because you are able to work with that easy , assured calm certainty that comes with concentrating solely on the job at hand.

Your thinking is not cluttered with yesterday’s or tomorrow’s or even today’s other tasks.

With your attention and focus freely able to focus solely on the current task at hand you are able to search a broad field of thinking for the best solution, undistracted and find it quickly.

Great quietness which is the source of clear thought and calm power.

Everyone knows about dividing and conquering.

But they think in terms of warfare or politics.

Why not instead apply this principle to your own daily life?

Divide and conquer.

Let yesterday rest in the graveyard with the past.

Your past has past.

Meet tomorrow when it arrives – not today.

Single-minded, consistent focus creates miracles.

Multi-tasking is a myth and a lie.

You can never multi-task without it negatively affecting your main task.

It will always be detrimental.

When you multi-task, running from task to task, you expend valuable time and get LESS done.

To be a real winner and a success you must cut out all distractions.

Cut out the failures and mistakes of the past.

It cannot be changed.

Cut out unnecessary fear and worry about the future.

It has not come yet.

Tomorrow’s problems and troubles belong in tomorrow.

The failures and mistakes of the past belong in the past.

Get centered. Get focused.

Focus on the present moment.

Tomorrow and it’s issues will come soon enough.

Concentrate on Today – Today.

Divide and conquer your days.

Then divide and conquer your tasks.

Take them out, one by one.

Elegantly, efficiently,

Live One Day At A Time
